Jonathan Rashad
Jonathan Rashad is a photojournalist, documentary photographer and writer producing visual stories in Egypt since 2008, mainly focusing on humanitarian, aftermath and breaking news stories.
His work has been published and distributed widely by many international media outlets and organizations, including:
National Geographic, TIME Magazine, The Pulitzer Center, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, BBC, Paris Match, The Wall Street Journal, UNICEF, UNHCR, Greenpeace, Le Monde, Newsweek, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, and The Washington Post.
In Egypt, he has covered major stories, including the Egyptian uprising in 2011 and protests till 2013, the 74 Egyptian football fans slaughtered during the 2012 Port Said stadium riot, the 21 Christians Egyptians beheaded by ISIS in 2015 in the Libyan coastal city of Sirte, the impacts of pollution and climate change on the Nile Delta and the freshwater of the Nile River, and the life of Syrian refugees in Cairo.
Rashad has also covered stories in other countries, including the documentation of the multi-sectorial nuitrition program in Ethiopia which tends to reduce stunting and improve the nutritional status of women and children, the post-war life of Syrian refugees in Istanbul, protests in The Netherlands in objection to the 2014 Israel-Gaza war, a Nile River expedition (grant by the Pulitzer Center) from the Ethiopia’s Lake Tana to where it empties into the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt, the corssing of Syrian refugees from Hungary to the Austrian border, the racial segregation in the Western Cape of South Africa, and travel photography in various countries including Tunisia, Estonia, Lebanon, Spain, Jordan, Georgia, the United States and Mexico.
Over the past few years, Rashad gave speeches, lectures and talks in various venues, including The University of Washington in Bothell WA, Tartu Art School in Estonia, The Tallinn Press Photographers Union in Estonia, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, the 5th European Month of Photography in Berlin, and The Bronx Documentary Center in New York.
